I guess you could say that being a Pleasant Valley Spartan is second nature to me.
I attended Pleasant View Elementary School from Kindergarten to 6th grade, Blackhawk Junior High (that was what it was called before Pleasant Valley Junior High!) and PV High School freshman through senior years. I suppose the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.
I earned my BA in Elementary Education from the University of Iowa (with a minor in music - talented!). I completed my student teaching experience at Pleasant View (my cooperating teacher also happened to be my old 5th grade teacher!) I was fortunate enough to be hired by Pleasant Valley Schools in 2000 as a talented and gifted teacher for grades 6-8. I moved to teaching 6th grade the next year.
While teaching here at PV, I earned my Master's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Mathematics for the Middle Grades 4-8 in December 2012. The experience taught me so much about mathematics and education; it truly energized my teaching!
As for my home life, I am married (my wife's name is Margot) and have two daughters, Eleanor, who turned 7 in July and is a second grader here at Pleasant View, and Caroline (we call her Rory), who is 18 months. We live in Davenport with our pug, Wrigley.
I am an avid, though not particularly skilled golfer. I try to get out on the course as many times as I can during the summer. I am a very big fan of NFL football as well, though I hold no allegiance to any particular team - I play fantasy football and blame it on its mesmerizing statistics. I am also cheering on my beloved Chicago Cubs as they attempt to make the playoffs for only the 6th time since I've been alive.
